IC - The Land of Fire (Hi no Kuni)

The Land of Fire is one of the largest and historically most powerful countries. Its government leader is the Fire Daimyo. The Land of Fire was the first country to adopt a ninja village, Konohagakure, a custom other countries would soon adopt. The Land of Fire is appropriately oriented towards the element of fire, typically having very bright and warm weather. While not the largest country, it has the largest hidden village. Konohagakure (Konoha for short), also known as the Village Hidden in the Leaves, is located here. It is one of the five great ninja villages. Its current leader is the Jūsandaime Hokage, Hyūga Heisuke, who is also the head of the Hyūga clan.

IC - The Land of Water (Mizo no Kuni)

The Land of Water is, fairly obviously, oriented towards the element of water. It is composed of many islands, with each having its own unique traditions. The country's weather is typically cool and misty. In some place it is very cold and snows often. Due to its remote location from the other countries, the Land of Water has been historically neutral and aloof from the politics of the continent. Kirigakure, the Village Hidden in the Mist, is the great ninja village of the Land of Water. Its current leader is the Jūyondaime Mizukage, Okada Tōya, who is also the most powerful of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist.

IC - The Land of Wind (Kaze no Kuni)

The Land of Wind is located south-west of the Land of Fire and borders the Land of Rivers and the Land of Rain. The country covers a vast realm, but that realm is largely comprised of arid deserts. Because there is very little rainfall throughout the year, the people of the country live in villages built on one of the desert's many oases. Despite the country's extremely harsh environment, it has a large population. The Land of Wind is traditionally a friend of the Land of Fire, with a lot of trade going on between the two countries. The ninja village of the Land of Wind is Sunagakure, the Village Hidden in the Sand. The shinobi from this village specialise in Wind Release techniques and the Puppet Technique. The present leader of Sunagakure is the Jūgodaime Kazekage, Shiraiwa Kōichi.

IC - The Land of Lightning (Kaminari no Kuni)

This country is located on a peninsula north-east of the Land of Fire and it is considered one of the Five Great Countries. In the centre of the country are vast mountain ranges, whose many thunder storms are said to give the country its name. From these mountain ranges, many rivers flow to the sea, creating a very crooked coastline of impressive oceanic beauty. There are many hot springs located within the country. Kumogakure, the Village Hidden in the Clouds, is the ninja village of this land. The village is located on a high mountain and is literally hidden in the clouds. The shinobi here specialise in Lightning Release techniques and Kenjutsu. The current leader is the Jūnidaime Raikage, Yotsuki Denmaru.

IC - The Land of Earth (Tsuchi no Kuni)

The Land of Earth is located north-west of the Land of Fire. The country is mostly comprised of desolate, rocky wasteland. The border of the Land of Earth runs along a rocky mountain range, blocking communication with other countries. The climate is harsh and windswept. Iwagakure, the Village Hidden in the Rocks, is the ninja village of this country. Shinobi from this village are generally Earth Release specialists. The present leader of Iwagakure is the Kyūdaime Tsuchikage, Iwako Naoto.
